When Mario's nipples made their debut appearance in a Super Mario Odysseytrailer in September,Watch Come Inside Me 3 the world lost its goddam mind.
But this parcel of partial nudity was actually pretty tame compared to reveal of Mario's more private region in the late '80s.

That's right, Mario's penis was put in print in 1988 in a Super Mariomanga series that ran from '88 to '98. Somehow, the world forgot about this, until its existence resurfaced on Twitter this week.
Here's Mario's penis, for the curious:

This panel was part of the first volume of the manga series called Super Mario, published by Kodansha. Each volume tied into a Mario release at roughly the same time of publish. The first volume, for instance, was tied to the release of the Game Boy game Super Mario Land.
The manga was officially licensed, so that image of Mario's naked nether region technically has the Nintendo stamp of approval.
You can view the entirety of the volume here, but these two pages give all the context needed:

Here's how it happened: Mario was hanging out with a "robot" (inside of which Princess Peach was actually hiding) and is surprised by some bone fish popping out of the water. While he's distracted, another bone fish sneaks up behind him and bites him right in the overalls.
Mario proceeds to fly out of his overalls in pain, and angrily waves them around while his penis is completely exposed. To an embarrassed Princess Peach, no less.
Mario's penis is little more than a curved line, like an uppercase U, but it's shocking nonetheless.
That's about as wild as the Super Mariomanga series got in its 10-year run, fortunately.
