【Dreams of Eroticism (1977】

It would appear that Justin Roiland -- co-creator of Rick and Dreams of Eroticism (1977Mortyand well known Nintendo super fan --can now also add "Nintendo Whisperer" to his long list of accomplishments.

During a recent interview at E3 about his upcoming PS4 and PS VR game Trover Saves the Universe, Roiland revealed a mind-blowing fact. The wildly successful and unexpected Nintendo Switch was a console that came straight out of his dreams. Literally.

Like Scary Terry, Roiland basically brought his fantasy Nintendo system into the real world. We'll let him paint the full picture:

"A long time ago, before the Switch was even announced, I had this crazy dream where I was in some giant Walmart-style department store place. It wasn't Walmart. But there was a video game section and it was like a throwback to when I was a kid, with all the video games on a wall. And behind this glass they had a new Nintendo system that -- get this -- was cartridge-based and the cartridges were really tiny and all the games were in this super modern-retro style."

After buying a Switch in the real world and playing games like SteamWorld Dig 2 on small cartridges, Roiland found himself in the strangest state of deja vu.

"I'm like, 'This is literally what my dream was!'" he said. "I remember waking up and just thinking, 'God, if Nintendo released a really cool, sleek, tiny little console that used tiny little cartridges with games that were really awesome, modern, but retro pixel art games -- that thing would sell like crazy!'"

And boy, did it ever. So if you're listening Nintendo, you should probably just start mining Roiland's unconscious for future business strategies.

He admitted, though, that the prophetic vision didn't account for the Switch's key innovation: portability. But considering that the Switch came as a complete surprise, dropping in the middle of a console generation cycle due to the failed Wii U, it's safe to say Roiland has been blessed with some sort of gift.

Or he's just like really obsessed with Nintendo.

"In the dream I was just sofucking excited. I had this stack of video games I was buying. Then of course I woke up before i could enjoy any one of them," he concluded sadly, before immediately perking up again. "But now they're here! It's so surreal -- even the cartridges are all little!"

Roiland isn't just dreaming his own gaming fantasies into existence, either.

His upcoming game sounds very much like the game of mydreams. The new studio he founded to create it, Squanch Games (originally named Squanchtendo), basically wants to combine the batshit humor of Rick and Morty with the brilliant game design of Nintendo.

"We're looking at our studio as like: What if Nintendo-esque IP and games, but in a world where Nintendo had a risqué side label -- like Nintendo At Midnight.' Just fun, great Nintendo-style games -- but Mario swears and pees on people. Well," he said, thinking better on it, "Maybe not that. That's kinda gross."

Instead of pee, you can expect Trover Saves the Universeto earn its M for Mature rating in more dementedly hysterical ways. During our chat, he mentioned that all their characters (including the trailer lovable Bathtub Guy) are anatomically-correct. All except for Trover, that it, because he's a parasitic hole monsters who upgrades by using "power babies" that eat each other then live in his eye sockets.

You know, the usual stuff.

To those familiar withRick and Morty, it sounds a lot like the unbridled fun of the Interdimensional Cable episodes. Most tantalizingly, Roiland even left room for cross over with the beloved Adult Swim animated show.

"The game is super sci-fi, and because it takes place on weird alien worlds, it very much could exist in the same universe. And, of course, Rick and Morty is an infinite multiverse..."

There's no release date for Trover Saves the Universeyet. But maybe if we all just dream hard enough.
