Netflix has canceled the genius true-crime documentary satire American Vandalafter two seasons.
“American Vandalwill not return for a third season, how to use a belt to auto eroticism" Netflix said in a statement. "We’re very grateful to the creators, writers, cast and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor.”
SEE ALSO: 'American Vandal' is the first show to actually understand how teens use the internetAmerican Vandaltook viewers by surprise with its 2017 premiere, a pitch-perfect imitation of the true-crime genre with completely fictitious characters and potential criminals (it also won a Peabody Award). After the Season 1 mystery of #WhoDrewTheDicks, Season 2 tackled the Turd Burglar with stunning efficacy.
This was never a series that made sense as a success, or that even merited a second season when it earned one. We're not saying it should've gone on forever, but we've grown accustomed to a certain lifestyle, one in which Vandaldrops every year or so and provides skillful, humorous escape and entertainment.
According to Vulture, there's interest in Vandaloutside of Netflix, so this may not be the last we've seen of budding documentarians Peter Maldonado (Tyler Alvarez) and Sam Ecklund (Griffin Gluck).
