Melania Trump released a new video PSA in which she is Germanyseen telling the American people just how important it is to wear masks in public. Her husband, Donald, should really check it out. And maybe she should even take her own advice.
On Thursday morning, Melania tweeted a short video clip of herself holding a white face mask and very, verysomberly declaring that the CDC recommends wearing masks to cover your face in grocery stores, pharmacies, and other places where it can be hard to maintain proper social distancing.
"Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing. It is another recommended guideline to keep us all safe," she said.
While Melania's PSA is factually correct and hopefully helps convince people to take the CDC guidelines more seriously, her overall message really contradicts her husband's actions. She also fails to put on a mask herself in the clip.

President Trump recently started sharing the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendation that people should wear cloth face masks when out in public, but he's made it very clear that hewill not be wearing a mask.
In an April news conference, Trump was asked why he won't wear a mask despite the fact that it would likely set a strong example for the country. He replied, "I just don't choose to. They are not mandatory guidelines, they are guidelines. They suggest you could wear them, you don't have to wear them."
Trump further elaborated on his decision and said, "Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I just don't see it."
While Melania's PSA was a step in the right direction in terms of raising awareness on the importance of wearing a mask, she truly did the bare minimum here. She spends the entirety of the video holding the mask — never wearing it. But if she and the president don't practice what she's preaching how can she expect people to take her words seriously?
Perhaps in the next White House PSA she and the president will consider putting masks on themselves, or at least sharing some tips on how to make your own cloth masks, since many masks are sold out or reserved for medical professionals directly exposed to COVID-19.
