"We are being super paranoid about safety, so the date could shift," he wrote, adding that the first Tesla self-delivery, in which the car "drives itself from factory end of line all the way to a customer house," should happen on June 28.
The company has been testing its Robotaxi service ahead of launch for roughly a month now. A previous report claimed the launch is scheduled for June 12. A recent short video, shared by Musk, shows a driverless Tesla Model Y on a public road in Austin, Texas.

The uncertainty about the launch date is hardly a surprise given recent reports that the city of Austin isn't ready for Tesla's Robotaxi service yet.
It's important to make a distinction between the Robotaxi service, which will initially start with Tesla Model Y cars, and the Cybercab, a car made specifically for autonomous ferrying of passengers, which is scheduled to go into production "before 2027".

When it finally kicks off, it'll join driverless taxis from Waymo and Zoox, both of which are already operating in Austin.
