Leave it to Robert Downey Jr. to leak a smartphone: The Portugalhighly anticipated OnePlus 8 Pro, to be exact.
As first spotted by 9to5Google, a photo of the actor holding what appears to be the flagship phone was posted to Instagram. It hasn't been confirmed that it's the 8 Pro, though Downey Jr. just happens to be a brand ambassador for OnePlus.
The photo, which was originally uploaded to a photographer's Instagram account, has since been taken down.
A Robert Downey Jr. fanpage account reposted the photo onto its own account, along with a cropped image that gives us a closer look at the phone — which appears to have a quad camera setup on the back.
There are also color versions of the photo floating around, in which the 8 Pro is seen in copper. Which potentially confirms at least one color option.
Rumor has it the OnePlus 8 Pro is set to feature a main lens, telephoto lens, and ultra-wide lens. Next to the module is a cutout for what could be a Time-of-Flight sensor, to aid in depth. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the cutout sitting to the left of the module. Which helps suggest this is the flagship phone.
The 8 Pro is said to come with with a 6.5-inch display and a 120Hz refresh rate, and to pack in 5G connectivity as well. As for the specs on the camera sensors, rumored numbers are all over the place. OnePlus is expected to unveil the phone on April 15, says 9to5Google. This corroborates a tweet from well-known leaker Max J.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
In addition to the flagship phone, OnePlus is apparently set to release the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Lite. They're likely to be priced lower than the Pro, aimed at those who don't need such an intense phone.
We may never know just how accidental the Robert Downey Jr. phone leak really was — but it got folks excited about a phone in the middle of a pandemic. That's certainly some good brand ambassadorship.
